This review will cover a variety of things related to this purchase of the Recon bag. First, the bag.
Not a big bag. It's marketed as a run-n-gun bag for different daily uses and, in fact, it's pretty perfect for that. The build quality of the bag itself is solid. Fabric is thick, seams are tight, zippers are beautiful and little things like the zipper pulls are nicely done and comfortable. The bag isn't cheap, literally or figuratively, so it's nice that so much thought went into the details of almost every aspect of the bag... almost. My one gripe is the dividers. They're aren't enough of them (only two) for some use cases, and the ones you do get are flimsy and not the highest quality. Not a deal breaker by any stretch, but more, better dividers would be nice.
For its size, it holds an impressive amount of stuff. For example... at the moment I'm gearing up for an evening trip to do some flying with two of my drones. In the bag are the following items:
1) 1 DJI Mini 5 Pro
2) The extra two batteries from the Fly More Combo in their charging case
3) The RC2 controller
4) A landing pad
5) A full pack of 3 Avata 360 batteries in their charging case
6) Two charging blocks
7) 4 high-wattage USB-C cables
8) 8 extra props for the Mini 5 Pro
9) A few lens cloths
10) A set of three DJI ND filters for the Mini 5 Pro
And strapped to the outside of the bag is my Avata 360 with my fourth battery in it, snug and safe.
And I don't even have anything in the outside tripod/selfie stick sleeve!
You can imagine this is a pretty heavy load, and takes up some space, but with careful planning, it all fits nicely, and in this particular setup the two dividers are all I need. This gives me everything for a day's flying if I'm around an outlet to plug into if I need to charge something. There's enough room for a large power pack if necessary, but I'm bringing a power bank in the car, so no need to add the weight. On the motorcycle, this would be all I'd need for a good amount of flying.
I'd imagine a bike commuter would find this bag more than suitable for carrying a lunch and thermos to work. A vlogger could put a whole kit in here! The zipper compartment is roomy, if a bit hard to get into the two small inside compartments. The bigger inside compartment is easily accessed, and that larger area holding them can take a lot of flatter stuff as well. So, overall, size and quality-wise, I thin Jay did a great job on this bag for what it's supposed to be. No complaints apart from having nicer, and maybe one more, dividers.
Now, let's get to what I think is the more important part of an online purchase; customer service.
I'm in the US, and the bag ships from Australia. It's going to take a while to arrive. I had a little issue regarding using the Contact email page on the website where I sent a question and didn't receive an answer, I ordered the bag anyway and got a little antsy waiting for it to ship, and I sent a nasty email saying basically "SHIP THE F%$#@NG BAG ALREADY!" Well, that's never the way to get someone's respect, but I did get a response from Jay almost immediately. VERY congenial and respectful, he let me know that wasn't an appropriate approach, but was more than friendly and willing to make me happy in spite of my less-than-justifiable communication. And he did just that, giving me a perk that made me feel better about the whole interaction. (I won't say what it was, but it was a great gesture, and my communications with him went on as though my initial email to him never happened. Jay's a pro, and a good businessman. Bottom line: try to find his actual email address, it's out there if you look for it, and don't use the website Contact page. He's responsive and treats customers with the utmost respect. That's as important as product quality in my world.
I'm looking forward to using this bag in different scenarios, especially on the Harley (it's not just a rice-rocket rider's bag) and my mountain bike as well, but it's a great little bag for just taking your gear with you on the train or hiking, etc because you throw it over a shoulder and don't have to carry it.
Very happy with this purchase.
Arrivé en seulement une semaine en France.
Sac de super qualité avec beaucoup de style.
Pleins de rangements et très bien conçus.
Merci
Awesome little bag. Have followed Jay for a long time now and I’m a local Wollongong boy who also rides and films with my own social media as well. So Jay has been a massive inspiration for me. This bag has been fantastic. Fits all my cameras, drone and my tripod and that’s all I really require from it. Since purchasing I haven’t gone ridding without it. The quality is awesome and the little rain jacket included has definitely come in handy already.
Great bag. Glad I could support Jay, looking forward to his next upload.
The power grade is amazing. I’ve genuinely used it on all my color grades and it never fails.
